| ASA 101 BKB (Basic Keel Boat Sailing) No previous experience required. Learn the fundamentals of sailing keel boats of 30 feet including sail theory, terminology, repetitive practice, safety, basic chart work, Rules of the Road, man overboard drills, USCG Requirements and much more. Two-day course including theory and practical exercises aboard the boat. Students successfully completing this course will receive ASA certification. |
| ASA 103 BCC (Basic Coastal Cruising) Prerequisite ASA-101 BKB Learn the fundamentals of coastal cruising on an auxiliary sailboat during daylight hours. Subjects include Rules of the Road, required equipment, engines and troubleshooting, weather observations, heavy weather, basic navigation, intensive boat docking practice and instruction, anchoring, pick-up mooring buoy practice. Two-day course including theory and practical exercises aboard the boat. Students successfully completing this course can receive ASA 103 certification and will have the skills necessary to coastal cruise boats 30 - 50 feet in length during the day in moderate winds and seas. |
| ASA 104 BBC (Bareboat Chartering) Prerequisite ASA 101 & 103 BCC Learn requirements for coastal cruising of auxiliary sailing yachts during daylight hours and earn Bareboat Charter Certification. Subjects include cruise planning, living aboard, basic weather forecasting, Rules of the Road, boating etiquette, safety equipment, chart reading and use, extensive practice of on board skills, cruising to unfamilar ports, anchor, dock & live aboard for over 48 hours. Three full days and two nights required. Students successfully completing this course can receive ASA 104 certification and will have the skills necessary to coastal cruise by day on boats of 30 to 50 feet. Live aboard during the course. |
| ASA 105 CON (Coastal Navigation) No previous experience or courses required. We only offer this class as self-study. Subjects include chart reading and interpretation, government publications, navigation instruments, use of tide and curren tables, plotting bearings, fixes, running fixes, dead reckoning, set & drift and much more. Receive your ASA 105 certification and possess the theory and knowledge to make meaningful use of coastal navigation and plotting information. |
| ASA 106 ACC (Advanced Coastal Navigation) Prerequisites - BKB 101, BCC 103, BBC 104, CON 105 ASA requires 30 hours minimum ASA instructional program - We offer 48+ hours for this class) Stand a navigation watch during a passage of about 20 miles by night and 20 miles by day and demonstrate all of the skills required for the ASA Coastal Navigation Standard. Boat Handling Under Sail 3 day / 2 night Masonboro /Baldhead /Frying Pan Areas of Instruction Include: Advanced Seamanship; Navigational Techniques; Trip Planning; Provisioning; Meal Planning; Day and Night Sailing Offshore; Emergency Procedures, Boat Engineering; Personal Gear and Safety Equipment; Executing Crew watches. |
