II Dolphins Sailing
II Dolphins Sailing is family owned and operated with our store front located at Salt Marsh Kayak Company,
Wrightsville Beach, NC.  Captain Ed has over 20 years of sailing experience beginning his first lesson on a
Chrysler 13' sloop at "The Sailing Center" in Banks Channel,  Wrightsville Beach .  Owning and sailing many
different types of sailboats over the years from sunfish to 40+ footers has allowed Captain Ed to gain the
experience and sea time necessary to acquire a USCG Master's License, ASA Instructor Certifications and ASA
Sailing School and Instructor of the Year Awards for 2006.  Add the ICW, Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, The
Cape Fear River, Southport and the Atlantic Ocean and you have an unbeatable combination in which to safely
learn all aspects of sailing and navigation.

Captain Ed...  I  began my commercial boat career  as a private contractor and worked for over 4 years providing
sunset cruises, charters, and ASA class instruction with a former Sailing School in Wrightsville Beach.  I was
doing something I loved, having a blast with the clients and beginning to realize that my dream was becoming a
reality.  The opportunity then presented itself for ASA (American Sailing Association) Sailing Classes.  I thought,
I'm a good sailor!  Why do I need sailing classes?  I started checking out
ASA  .  I  realized how much I needed to
learn.  Subscribing to sailing magazines, buying sailing books, listening to other people and DIY trial and error is
great, but it is no match for professional training.  One of the best parts of a training class is having the school be
responsible for your training and learning on the school boat.  There is no better feeling of safety and security
than to have a professional guide you into the proper procedures and techniques.   Sailing, docking, anchoring,
navigation or man overboard drills, it's all here and much more.

After my first ASA class, sailing became much more fun and enjoyable.  Getting caught offshore as weather
deteriorated and seas and winds increased proved to be more manageable for me and the boat as my confidence
grew.  Anxious concern was replaced by self-assurance.  As knowledge increases and experience is gained one is
better able to determine when to make those uncertain decisions that your crew will look to you to make.
Learning when and how to raise sails or to practice reefing the main while sailing close hauled in 5 foot seas
became an easily paced task rather than an experimental documentary for TLC. Always put safety first. Never  risk
property damage or crew injury by allowing ego to be in charge.  This is no place for a macho attitude! You begin
to learn how to make better choices and decisions relating to existing conditions.  Friends will begin to have
confidence in your abilities as a sailor. You will be on your way to becoming a responsible captain and feel a quiet
authority that everything is under control.  Everyday brings a different set of variables to the table that must be
evaluated.  It becomes a welcome challenge rather than a haunting unsure feeling.

The opportunity then presented itself for me to open a sailing school and II Dolphins Sailing was born.

Our teaching principles are simple.  1) Listening we forget  2) Seeing we understand  3) Doing we remember.  I
didn't come up with these words or the technique.  It was passed on to me somewhere along the way toward my
quest in becoming a better sailor.

That leads us to you!  What is your dream?  Day sailing the bay in a 20 footer?  Joining the snowbirds moving
south on their
ICW cruise to a Caribbean island?  Bareboating?  Trailer sailing the Florida Keys?
Circumnavigation?  A Clipper Cruise?  Discovering the Abacos?  "Restoring a classic sailboat"

II Dolphins Sailing can help prepare the way, whatever your dream may be.  Start with a Sunset Cruise if you are
new to sailing.  Then move on to our Introduction to Sailing and Docking Class on our boat or yours.  As you
become more focused and serious about your future sailing plans, you may want to further develop your skills by
adding more advanced classes with ASA Certifications which will prepare you to have the credentials to Bareboat
with your family or friends anywhere in the world.  While we here at II Dolphins Sailing would love to have all of
your business, the beauty of the ASA standard is that your certification is accepted by every other
ASA Certified
School anywhere in the world.  You have the flexibility to choose more advanced certifications from other schools
on larger boats in different sailing locations.  Planning your cruising future is your business.  Helping you reach
your cruising dream ready to go and safely prepared is ours!

We thank you for taking the time to look over our website and we hope that you'll give us a call to chat or send us
an email with any questions you might have.  We espouse traditional family values and always endeavor to do our
very best to treat people like we want to be treated.

Cruising for us is not in getting there but in being there!  How about you?  Isn't it about time?

With a dream and the wind to carry me...

Captain Ed
